WHY DO EMPLOYEES LEAVE?

Monday Message from Jerry Houston, President and CEO of HPISolutions

In a survey completed in April of 2022 through McKinsey & Company identified some key issues, explaining why people leave their positions.  This study was conducted with 13,382 employees in Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.  Here are the results:

The McKinsey results went on to say that most issues surround low levels of motivation (purpose, support and relationships).

It is very clear to me that the vast majority of issues have nothing to do with money (making the assumption that your organization is fully aware of compensation levels in your geographical region and are competitive).  Furthermore, there are issues of a lack of career pathing for employees (with a strong communication process) and making sure that your leaders are in step with the purpose of the organization. It is important that leadership understands and is connected to the people on the team, having realistic expectations regarding work outputs, not playing favorites, and also taking action with under-performing employees (building a strong sense of team). Leaders offering flexible work schedules and rules, and who truly care about the well-being of their people and demonstrate it through programs that support healthy lifestyles.

I know that these are complex issues to deal with, especially in smaller organizations with limited resources.  However, not to take action IS an action.  Don’t know where to start?  Reach out… we’re here to help.

Have a Great Week!
