Valuing What Is Said Is The Key To Great Leadership

I want all of you to stop for a minute…think about the person or persons in your life who really listen to you.  Maybe it is their eye contact, repeating to affirm what you said.  Maybe it is nodding in agreement.  Whatever communication they are using, it sends a message.  That message is “I VALUE YOU.”

We all want to feel valued.  Yet in the hub-bub of our busy lives (and especially at work), we sometimes forget to value the other person to whom we are communicating.  You have felt this; so have I.  Does someone look elsewhere when you are talking, fidget with the phone or start texting, read their emails, take a phone call when you are in the middle of a statement; you get the idea.  This is true in live meetings and discussions as well as online.  Folks, it’s the Golden Rule – Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  Simple, Huh.
