IF I PERCEIVE IT TO BE… IS IT?

Monday Message from Jerry Houston, President and CEO of HPISolutions

What is PERCEPTION?  Wikipedia describes perception as the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses.  A way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something, a mental impression.  Have you ever heard that if someone perceives something strongly enough it becomes their truth?

The fourth “P” in the TTISI patented process, The Prioritized Leader, is “Perception.”  This powerful concept is necessary for organizations that want to be innovative.  Innovation comes from four  concepts:

  1. An unquenchable curiosity toward life
  2. Enjoying the process of discovery
  3. Persevering through multiple failures while learning
  4. Staying focused on the end game, despite the failures

Think about anything invented over time; the telephone, electricity, the internet, cell technology, and so on.  How many failed experiments before a final success?  What is the next great invention?  It depends on what we can see with the mind’s eye, with a mental image of something not yet created, through the power of perception.

Perception is necessary for organizations that want to remain at the forefront of their industries and ensure their long-term sustainability by being an organization that constantly innovates and grows.

Many years ago, I utilized a creative thinking exercise with a group of high school students, challenging them to come up with a random word, brainstorm on the word, come up with related words, and create a brand new product to bring to market, never having been thought of before.  The number of fresh new ideas was astonishing; a radio that was embedded in your brain and could be operated by blinking your eyes, a 100% edible camera that could take pictures, develop them digitally, and then the camera could be eaten, creating zero environmental impact.

If you would like to try this creative thinking exercise, write to me at info@hpisolutions.com and we will send it to you… the name of the exercise is the 60-second exercise… it takes 30 minutes to play!

Have a Great Week!
