Monday Message from Jerry Houston, President and CEO of HPISolutions
“There is no security on this earth; there is only opportunity.”
-Douglas MacArthur
During the month of July, we are going to focus on the topic of Leadership Courage, finishing with an amazing opportunity to hear Amy Riley, Alliance Partner at HPISolutions, CEO of Shoop Consulting, and author of the international bestseller, The Courage of a Leader, available on Amazon. Amy will be delivering a live, online Keynote Address on this important topic of Leadership. Register for Amy’s keynote here!
As I thought about this week’s message, I used a quote from my book, The Eccentric Entrepreneur, available on Amazon, chapter three on the subject of Courage. In this writing, I talk about the cowardly lion from the famous movie, The Wizard of Oz. Almost every human in the world watched the lion as he went through life “scared of his own shadow.” In the end, the wizard helped him to understand that he always had courage… he just didn’t know it.
Courage is not just about being brave or fearless, it is about moving forward, even in the face of the unknown or of adversity. One of the ways I try to overcome my fears of running a business, of advising clients in the right way, or of coaching my team, is to think about the idea of “what is the worst thing that could happen?” When we take the time to think through the benefits and consequences of a decision, thinking in terms of what could go right, and, what could go wrong, can we reasonably accept either result? When I think about the risks, weigh the options, and make a decision to move forward, I have found the courage to act… it is certain that nothing happens until we take action.
It is my hope that you will read our Monday Messages, our monthly Power Ideas and register for Amy’s keynote address on Tuesday, July 27, at 8:30am PT.
Have a Great Week!
