Monday Message from Jerry Houston, President and CEO of HPISolutions
One of the things I learned from my Father was to have respect for women. “Hold your tongue around women” he would say. “Be respectful,” “Do what your mother tells you to do.” I also clearly remember a swift kick to the seat of my pants if I failed to hold the door open for Mom. I know this all sounds pretty corny or old-fashioned, but that was my upbringing, and I have been opening doors for the women in my life for a very long time.
During the month of March, it is a time to celebrate the lives and contributions of women everywhere. I am so proud of the women in my life. Strong, resilient, focused and caring. According to Dr. John Gray, author of the book, “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”, women communicate and process in very different ways from men. Women are more open and solve problems and challenges by talking things out, as opposed to retreating to their caves as men have a tendency to do. Women are very intuitive, generally, and can read between the lines much better than men can do. Women have proven that they can be very effective leaders, tend to handle details and information better than most men, and they are not afraid to display their emotions for the most part.
Take time to appreciate the women in your life at home, work and among your friendships. Your life will be enriched by those relationships and the power of combining the value that women and men bring to the world increases the impact that we can have, collectively.
Have a great week!
